The electricity bill of the Municipality of Cagliari rises again. And the month-by-month escalation continues at an impressive pace. In April, the cost for twelve months (from August 2022 to July 2023) was estimated at 3,560,000 euros. The bill swelled as the weeks went by. So much so that today the manager of the Treasury service, Claudia Madeddu, corrected the expenditure upwards again. Splashes at 5,719,425.19 euros: 2.2 million more than the initial calculation.

Mayor Paolo Truzzu, together with his colleagues, had sounded the alarm: the Municipalities do not have enough money to pay the bills, tens of millions are missing from the appeal.

The mayor had also foreseen further increases, which risk bringing the public administrations to their knees. Palazzo Bacaredda must guarantee the switching on of traffic lights, light poles in the streets of the city (now more functional than in the past, when blackouts raged) and other systems.

The annual contract with Enel Energia had been signed on the basis of a Consip agreement, "for an estimated total amount of 3,560,000", reads the reconstruction reported in the official documents.

At the end of September they came to terms with the August bill. And the influences of the war in Ukraine and speculation were already being felt. The budget was increased to 5,042,414.86 euros (VAT included). New invoice and new intervention, then, on 2 November: here is the "estimate of electricity consumption for 12 months of 5,611,925.19 euros (VAT included), made on a presumptive basis and which took into account the national increases in the cost of electricity". It seemed over. But no. Because Enel delivered the last October bill. It goes up even more: the new expenditure forecast is 5,719,425.19 euros. It may not be the definitive one.
