Serious deficiencies in crew emergency preparedness and response, fire prevention and firefighting, and onboard safety management were found by the Port State Control Unit of the Cagliari Coast Guard on board a Liberian-flagged general cargo vessel that was detained at the port of Cagliari.

With a gross tonnage of 7,345 tons, nearly 120 meters in length, and built 20 years ago, the vessel arrived in the canal port on August 8th for commercial operations . As is customary in these cases, inspections were initiated. "The administrative detention order was triggered after a careful and thorough inspection," explains the Port Authority, "during which serious deficiencies were found in the crew's emergency preparation and response, fire prevention and firefighting, and onboard safety management. In total, 31 non-compliances were found, 14 of which led to detention."

The ship will not be able to leave the port of Cagliari until "the necessary safety conditions on board have been re-established, and only after it has been inspected again by the Port State Control unit."
