Inadequate salaries and contracts stuck 6 years ago. Tourism workers are protesting in Cagliari, a sector which has more than 40 thousand operators on the island. "There are around 200-250 euros in the paycheck at stake", explains the CGIL, promoter together with CISL and UIL of a first strike in the capital - with a demonstration from 10am to 12pm - in front of the headquarters of Confindustria Southern Sardinia in Viale Colombo.

The mobilization will then extend to the whole of Sardinia, in a day of abstention from regional work to be scheduled for September. The protest broke out after the lack of agreement at national level on the contract for the Tourism Industry sector. "The wages of these workers have been stagnant for years, Confindustria refuses to grant the contractual adjustments that workers need, especially after all these years of inflation", explained Simone Congiu, CGIL.

On the issue of contracts there is a desire to "insert clauses that we reject". «We are here for the renewal – continues Congui –. These workers are part of a vital sector for our island economy . They are the ones who guarantee the holidays of all the tourists who come here to Cagliari every summer. And they have the right to receive the contractual increases they expect after all these years." In total, there are sixteen hours of national strike announced by Filcams, Fisascat and Uiltucs: a protest that will involve all of Italy and also Sardinia over several days.
