The "Sant'Elia Walk & Run," scheduled for Sunday, December 14th, starting from the Unipol Domus, has been canceled. The running event, organized by SSD Mediterranea Cagliari, with the support of UISP, Cagliari Calcio, BeAsOne, and the Giulini Foundation , was rejected by the Municipality. The sports club had submitted an application for authorization to hold the event in the streets of Sant'Elia. The process was initiated regularly, but during the preliminary investigation, the local police expressed an unfavorable opinion: the route would "occupy the road and several intersections," creating traffic congestion on a day already marked by two major events: the Olympic Torch Relay and the Rally Sardegna.

After an initial request for additions and several exchanges of notes between offices, the organizers submitted a new route. However, that route did not meet the conditions set by the local police: no roadway occupation, no occupied intersections, no restrictions on residents' free access. Furthermore, in the event of an emergency along the stretch controlled by the organizer, no patrols would be available to deploy.

The result? The event was canceled , with Mediterranea having to officially announce the news. "Unfortunately," the association explains, "the local police informed us on Thursday, December 11th, that they could not guarantee their presence on that date. This has resulted in the loss of an essential element for the event to be held in complete safety." A message also addressed to the many participants and supporters: "We hope to meet again soon at the Unipol Domus to run and walk together again." Therefore, the race is merely postponed.
