Cagliari is preparing for a revolution under its walls , with the dream of a new outdoor promenade between the public gardens and the nearby Bastion of Saint Remy . The municipal council has in fact approved the technical-economic feasibility project for the consolidation of the rocky ridge and natural caves of the Mereu open-air school, works which - according to estimates - cost around 9.5 million euros .
Developed by a temporary group of professionals, the administration's project aims at the environmental and landscape redevelopment of an area of historical and architectural value in the historic center of the city, originating from a complex stratification, which concerns the development of the city walls. Initially confined to the external spaces strictly pertaining to the Mereu open-air school, the project was extended to create a path connecting with the garden under the walls and with the Bastion of Saint Remy .
The area subject to intervention is located along Viale Regina Elena and precisely in the perimeter of the eastern walls of Cagliari, from the Mereu School, next to the Public Gardens of Via Ubaldo Badas , up to the connection with the Park under the Walls near the Bastion of Saint Remy. «This phase - specifies the resolution - does not have direct or indirect effects on the economic-financial situation or on the assets of the institution, as it is a preparatory act for the inclusion of the intervention in the three-year program of public works 2024/2026 ».
