Four and a half months after its relocation to Piazza Nazzari on March 18, the City Council approved the project for the redevelopment of Cagliari's San Benedetto market. This was done with Resolution No. 184, which marks a decisive step forward for a project that will transform one of the city's key areas. The project, valued at over €30 million, is largely financed by National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) funds and supplemented by municipal resources.

The project, as explained by the Municipality of Cagliari, "entails a major renovation that will maintain the building's essential shape, but will completely reconfigure its interior spaces , making them more functional and accessible. The intermediate floors and load-bearing structures will be completely redone, while the roof will be transformed into a walkable terrace. The base will be modified to maintain a constant internal height, eliminating architectural barriers and making access more functional."

A distinctive element of the new layout will be the creation of a 280-square-meter internal courtyard, designed to improve ventilation and natural light. The outdoor areas will then be redeveloped with green spaces, pedestrian walkways, and parking, with particular attention to the needs of the most vulnerable .

"With the redevelopment of the San Benedetto market, residents will be able to enjoy a more functional, safe, and accessible market, while traders will have spaces worthy of the work they do every day, " emphasizes Carlo Serra, Councilor for Economic Development and Productive Sectors. "Accessibility is one of the project's cornerstones: architectural barriers will be removed and access will be completely redesigned, making the facility truly inclusive for all. This is undoubtedly a significant strategic investment that will fully restore the San Benedetto market to the central role it has always played in the city's economic and social life."
