The family of Cagliari centenarians is growing: yesterday the vice president of the city council, Marzia Cilloccu, celebrated the achievement of the prestigious milestone of Marcella Usai.

A math and science teacher at “Garavetti”, Mrs. Usai enjoys excellent health and, thanks to her prolonged contact with the world of young people, is still very lively and talkative when talking about her life.

Yesterday he wanted to underline his and his brother's efforts in continuing their studies , and in managing to gain many satisfactions, in their private lives and at work, despite the fact that the two were orphaned at a very young age by their mother, who died of tuberculosis immediately after the Second World War.

Among the curiosities that emerged during the chat with Marzia Cilloccu, the fact that Mrs. Usai is the granddaughter of the jeweler Usai of Piazza Martiri, a business next to the historic “Tramer”. And that in that very jewelry store run by Mr. Usai (who died in the church of San Domenico during one of the bombings of May 1943), before starting his business, Teodoro Cilloccu, godfather of the birthday girl and grandfather of the current vice president of the City Council, worked.

Alongside the birthday girl was her only son, Corrado Nieddu.

Marzia Cilloccu brought Marcella Usai a souvenir parchment and a commemorative medal with the coat of arms of the Municipality of Cagliari as a gift.
