Stop mountain biking at the Sella del Diavolo: the green area in front of the sea of Cagliari can only be crossed on foot and along the indicated routes.
It is the first result obtained by the Legal Intervention Group, which had long since asked for greater protection for the area and also requested answers and clarifications from the Municipality and the Region.
The answers sought by ecologists arrived precisely from the regional councilorship for the environment with the updating of the management plans of the “Torre del Poetto” and of the “Monte Sant'Elia, Cala Mosca and Cala Fighera” area.
The ban on disturbing wildlife and removing or damaging vegetation, soil and rocks has also been confirmed.
On the site, according to the regulation, "transit by cyclists of any type is expressly prohibited".
Now the Legal Intervention Group is asking that the regulation be applied: "The Municipality of Cagliari, which is responsible for managing the two sites of the Natura 2000 network - reads a note - should implement the provisions immediately".
For the Grig this is the right path: «Now, finally, some positive measures have been adopted and the need for punctual execution - the environmentalists insist - Let's deserve a naturalistic-cultural jewel like the Sella del Diavolo. Were it in any other country, the Sella del Diavolo would be managed with great care and attention. It is an area of great naturalistic importance, not a cycling circuit or an amusement park. A little common sense, fairness and vigilance are a must». There is also another activity in the sights of ecologists: «The fixed installations for sport climbing and the zip-line in areas at risk of landslides constitute a danger for the nesting of birds of prey, in particular the peregrine falcon, Falco peregrinus , and for public safety itself.
The association awaits an institutional position on this too.
