The hypothesis that the causes were not natural was immediately put forward by the 118 operators who had entered the apartment in the popular district together with the firefighters: a team from the Viale Marconi command had intervened for what appeared to be an ordinary opening operation brings. It was the victim's daughter who called for help.

Shortly after, around 9 pm, the road was illuminated by the flashing lights of the sirens of numerous patrols. The military has barred access to the area, with red and white tapes.

The coroner, Roberto Demontis, and the magistrate on duty, Andrea Massidda, also arrived at the house. During a long inspection inside the house, details would have emerged which convinced the investigators to believe that Venerato Sardu was killed.
