For having put up for sale nine Japanese "Netsuke" ivory figurines, without having the required CITES certifications on the origin of the objects and the ivory, an Italian citizen residing in Quartu Sant'Elena, a trader, ended up in trouble.

The police from the CITES unit in Cagliari reported her on the loose for violating article 1 of law 150 of 1992.

For the purposes of protecting the animals from which the ivory comes, in order to possess or trade ivory objects created after 1947, the date on which the legislation came into force, it is necessary to obtain a special CITES certification. This is the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species. The animals covered by the convention are those present in the CITES lists which are updated periodically.
