Handover at the Captaincy this morning in Cagliari. At the headquarters in via dei Calafati, Rear Admiral Mario Valente gave his greeting speech to the city. He leaves office after more than three years. In his place, the ship's captain Giovanni Stella arrived from the maritime direction of Genoa: for him a return to Sardinia after his assignment years ago in Porto Torres. Valente focused on some issues, such as the redevelopment of the water front of the port of Cagliari and the coastal areas and the relationships with all the regional and city institutions.

Present at the ceremony were the governor Alessandra Todde, the outgoing mayor of Cagliari Paolo Truzzu and the leaders of the police forces. «It seems right to me to include what has been developed with the Municipality of Cagliari on the redevelopment of coastal areas and on the administrative arrangement of the entire coast - underlined Valente -. Cagliari has a unique water front which the Municipality and the Port Authority have intelligently been able to redevelop and improve making use of the contribution of the Port Authority".

The new commander Stella, in reference to Cagliari, spoke of a «maritime and port reality of considerable strategic importance for the maritime economy. I am well aware of the commitments that await me, but I am aware that to face them I will be able to count on an excellent crew." From the sea, new opportunities for the capital and Sardinia. «There are new projects on the horizon, resources to be deployed - announced President Todde on the sidelines of the handover - I have great faith that with the Navy the city of Cagliari will also be able to find new economic drivers by developing attractors. From this point of view I have no doubt that the Region, the Government and the Navy will work together for the good of the city and for the good of Sardinia."
