An ATM at the Eni Station Sa Illetta petrol station in Cagliari was uprooted during the night .
A gang made up of at least 8 people, all with balaclavas on their faces, went into action at 2.30. The safe was loaded onto a van – which was later stolen from Maracalagonis last night – and the criminals fled, also escorted by a BMW.
After the alarm went off for all the operations centers, they were intercepted by a patrol of carabinieri from the Dolianova mobile radio along State Road 387, in the Selargius area.
At that point four men got out of the van and ran away across the fields, the BMW quickly pulling away.
The pursuit by the military in the open countryside was futile.
Both on the van and on the recovered intact ATM, technical surveys are underway by the Investigative Unit and the RIS of Cagliari. Thieves may have left traces.
