The local police conducted a new inspection yesterday evening inside the former school on Via Euro in La Palma, a building that never came into use and has long been occupied by the neighborhood's recreational and cultural club.

Inside the premises, the officers found only the bartender, who was charged with unauthorized occupation.

The club, a historic and deeply rooted organization in the area , works closely with an association involved in the distribution of food supplies, thus playing a role of strong social impact not only in the neighborhood but throughout the city.

A function that today risks being compromised by the municipal administration's decision to repossess the property.

"This administration has decided to reclaim the school and finally dedicate it to teaching," explains Massimiliano Piccoi, a member of the Reformists, who has been working alongside the school's managers in recent weeks.

"It's an understandable choice," he continues, "but if these people are being sent away, it's imperative that we find a new home for them. I've already started discussions with Councilor Anna Puddu, who has proven to be very attentive and sensitive to these issues, and together we're evaluating the path to take."

Among the options being considered is the possibility of finding another space within the same neighborhood.

One of the buildings considered potentially suitable is the former District Office.

"The problem," Piccoi clarifies, "is that the property is owned by Area. If it proves suitable, I will assist the club in requesting direct assignment to the relevant body. I reiterate my ongoing collaboration with the Municipality, through Councilor Puddu, with the sole goal of protecting a social institution of great value to the area."

Meanwhile, the La Palma cultural and recreational club has no intention of giving up. Determined to remain in the neighborhood where it grew up, it hasn't ruled out organizing a public demonstration in the neighborhood to raise awareness among residents and institutions about the importance of its presence and the social consequences a forced closure could have.
