Discontent is growing among residents and business owners in the Villanova neighborhood over the installation of the new water main by Abbanoa, which should begin on Monday : "We welcome the intervention," says Paolo Angius, honorary president of the association of merchants in the historic center "Strada Facendo Cagliari," "but we ask that the parking ban be limited exclusively to the excavation areas, and not extended to all the streets indicated in the ordinance."

The streets involved – Iglesias, Oristano, Abba, Vittorio Emanuele Orlando and Einaudi – host over 200 commercial activities, including shops, medical offices, pharmacies, B&Bs and guest houses.

«The lack of parking, in an area that is already critical for parking, risks penalizing not only economic operators, but also residents and customers of local businesses», Angius points out.

Residents and traders are therefore turning to the manager of the Mobility, Road Infrastructure and Networks area of the municipality, Daniele Olla «so that the ordinance is modified, allowing parking in the streets not directly affected by the excavation work».

The request is "a common sense solution to balance the need to improve the water network with that of ensuring liveability and services in the central area of the city", concludes Angius.
