Cagliari, collapse in Piazza Palazzo: cars stopped (again)
The parking ban ordinance for the Castello area in front of the Cathedral was never revoked, but it had returned to being a parking lot. Councilor Marcialis: «Pedestrian is better»Per restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
The subsoil collapses and in Piazza Palazzo, in Cagliari, the closure to cars is triggered again. The first movements to "lock down" the space at the foot of the Cathedral and the building that houses the Metropolitan City (the representatives of the House of Savoy were once there) date back to the last few days: now there are barriers, concrete bollards and a chain to prohibit access to the square, which had long been reused as a parking lot, despite a prohibition order.
The first to transform it into a pedestrian area was Massimo Zedda in his previous term as mayor: he wanted to give Castello a space to enhance, not intended for vehicle parking.
«And this is the intention even now», explains Yuri Marcialis, councilor for Mobility in the new Zedda era, «that should be a flagship square for Cagliari, one of the most beautiful: the parking ban ordinance had never been revoked».
Yet over time we had returned to old habits. But the collapse could be the cause of the turning point, for the return to the (recent) past.
Piazza Palazzo would have been closed anyway in view of the G7 Labor meeting, scheduled for mid-September: security reasons. "We will decide for the aftermath with the mayor," the councilor announces. But the line is drawn. And in all likelihood it will no longer be possible for cars to cross.
