It was expected, it happened. It is impressive, reported in black and white, the increase in the cost of electricity for the Municipality of Cagliari which - except for blackouts in entire neighborhoods that seem outdated - must keep street lamps, traffic lights and other public lighting systems on.

Approximately 3.5 million had been set aside in cash. It happened in April and the period from 1 August to 31 July 2022 had to be covered. Now the budget chapter, under the heading "electricity bill", has been integrated: in one year (at least) 5 million and 612 thousand euros will come out . Two more than expected. And it is not even said that it is the final figure.

Sting and risk for the future emerge from the reading of the determination just signed by Claudia Madeddu, manager of the Provveditorato service of the Municipality.

Going over the documents, he starts from joining the Consip agreement with Enel Energia. In April, € 3,560,000 had been allocated. And VAT was also included. A lot, but not enough.

The first integration was necessary in September, after the August bills were delivered to the Municipality, when "following the national increases in the cost of electricity, there was a considerable increase in the amount of all consumption of electric energy".

The allocation had been increased to 5,042,414 euros. Plus 86 cents.

A drain, but it seemed like a satisfactory estimate. Instead it wasn't. Because, the executive reports, "in the bills for the month of September 2022 there was a further increase in the cost of electricity". And it is assumed "that these increases will also affect consumption in the coming months".

Light has to be paid for until the end of July. And the Municipality comes to have to spend over 5.6 million. At a minimum and except for further stinging not at all excluded. Indeed: predictable.
