Two Algerians aged 32 and 34 were arrested by the police in Cagliari on charges of aggravated robbery. The victim is a fellow countryman, beaten and wounded in the throat with a knife: they wanted to take away his money and cell phone.
The serious episode of violence occurred in recent days at the port. According to the reconstruction of the Mobile Squad agents, the young man who was attacked – recently arrived on the coast of Sulcis – was near the docks waiting to board a ship to leave Sardinia. He was with other North Africans, recipients of an order to leave, when he was surrounded by a group of fellow countrymen – all identified as illegal immigrants and also recently landed – who kicked and punched him, after holding a knife to his throat, slightly injuring him.
The attackers ran away with his backpack: inside there was his smartphone and 150 euros. The victim of the beating was taken to the hospital while the police started tracking down the robbers, who were identified thanks to the descriptions: they were in Piazza del Carmine.
Here they were handcuffed and taken to Uta prison, at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
