Night of fire in Cagliari.

The mega landfill in via San Paolo, a few hours after the slum was cleared, went up in flames with very high tongues of fire visible from miles away, repeated explosions and a thick blanket of smoke that enveloped the whole area.

The fire broke out ten minutes before 10 pm: the residents of the area first heard some explosions, then saw the toxic cloud that covered the sky above Santa Gilla.

Two teams from the Cagliari fire brigade command with the support of two tank trucks, a large tank truck (kilolitric) also arrived from the airport detachment to supply the vehicles with water.

The extinguishing operations went on for hours, also due to the difficulty and danger of the presence of LPG bottles and medium voltage overhead lines.

Meanwhile, the intervention is not yet completed: this morning the operators are putting out the last outbreaks and securing the area. Via San Paolo, meanwhile, is still closed.

THE INVESTIGATIONS - There is no doubt that the stake is malicious. Someone must have reached the big landfill and set it on fire trying to burn the mountains of garbage. Perhaps to destroy something that was hidden in the heaps of waste.

Local police and Cagliari police officers are working to shed some light on the affair. The footage of the video surveillance cameras in the area has been recovered and, in the next few hours, the videos that have filmed the various phases of the fire and could have immortalized even those who set it will be viewed.

Local police are also hearing local residents. Finally, the final report of the Fire Brigade is awaited, which could provide further elements useful for the investigation.
