Down another wall at the historic port of Cagliari . The bulldozers tore down the old fire brigade command workshop: the building that had been disused for years and in semi-ruined condition dominated the western entrance to the city, in via Riva di Ponente, at the corner with via Perdixedda.

The Port Authority awarded the contract last November 10 and the intervention is currently underway. The cost of the works, assigned to the Edile Vna cooperative, is 477 thousand euros.

After the removal of the rubble that gran de area will be used as a car park for semi-trailers of the lorries that guarantee freight traffic: the Authority estimates that it is constantly growing. Only in a few years time will the space be converted to host services of the nautical district.

The port, however, is increasingly open to the city, with the destruction of the visual barriers that began in the mid-1990s, when the mayor Mariano Delogu decided to make the boundary wall that separated the docks from via Roma disappear.
