Cagliari Airport suffers delays, with a flight to Bologna canceled.

At 9:00 PM, Cagliari airport is in chaos for departing passengers. Seventeen flights are delayed, and one has been canceled. Many people are waiting to be confirmed when they will finally be able to board their plane.

It's the result of a series of problems elsewhere. On the one hand, the severe weather that hit several regions of Italy, and on the other, an accident that shut down Milan's Malpensa airport for over an hour.

Here, a small fire broke out on board an Easyjet plane bound for Prague, forcing the pilots to declare an emergency during taxi. According to initial investigations, the fire was caused by a power bank, a device used to charge smartphones and other electronic devices. The battery, belonging to one of the passengers, was inside a trolley stored in the overhead locker.

The emergency also had repercussions on the entire airport. Following the activation of security procedures, arrivals and departures were temporarily suspended. The airport remained essentially closed for about an hour , causing disruption to departing and arriving travelers.

Eurocontrol, the pan-European agency that coordinates air traffic, has asked airlines to reroute flights to Malpensa. Aircraft in flight have been redirected to alternative airports, pending the reopening of the runways.   The airport was fully operational around 7.30 pm.

The chaos has spread elsewhere. In Cagliari, the Ryanair flight to Bologna, scheduled for 9:20 PM, was canceled. Among the most serious delays was the Cagliari-Linate flight operated by Aeroitalia, which was scheduled to depart at 5:10 PM and was moved to 9:15 PM.
