Vigilantes of private institutes supporting the police in Cagliari .

Today the mayor Paolo Truzzu, the prefect Giuseppe De Matteis and the private security institutes operating in the capital signed the Memorandum of Understanding "A Thousand Eyes on the Cities"

Thus the vigilantes will collaborate with the security forces, their activity will consist only in the observation and collection of elements useful for the prevention and repression of crimes . Therefore they will not intervene directly, they will not carry out public functions , and they will always have to act - obviously - within the limits of the law.

The agreement is valid for three years, renewable.

The Municipality explains that the vigilantes will provide "a valid contribution" to the activity of the police in terms of public safety . Specifically, they will be able to report: the presence of suspicious means of transport or people ; the escape of vehicles or people from the scene of the crime; the presence of stolen cars or motorbikes ; children or elderly people in difficulty or in a confused state ; removal from hospitals of elderly people or people undergoing Tso; the presence of obstacles on communication routes; the interruption of energy supply services; situations of urban decay and social hardship ; the reporting of any other situation "which suggests that the commission of crimes is imminent" ; finally, "information elements concerning cases involving potential economic-financial offences".

The institutions that have signed the Protocol are: Alarm System, Coopservice, La Nuorese, Sicurtecnica, Tiger, Vedetta2 Mondialpol and Vigilpol.

The agreement, it is specified in the Protocol, does not involve expenses borne by the Municipality or the State. The costs are all borne by private institutions. The vigilantes will also be able to participate in the professional development training activities of the State Police and the Municipal Police of Cagliari .
