Tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27, could be a tense day in Cagliari. The antimilitarists of A Foras are defying a police ban and deciding to take to the streets to demonstrate for the Palestinian people and "against the repression of their struggle" on Holocaust Remembrance Day , the international day celebrated to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust.
The A Foras demonstration, as stated in the Police Headquarters provision, presents "antagonistic and conflicting contents and aims" , which could "overlap and interfere with the institutional meaning of the anniversary".
There is a "real risk" of "tension and disruption to public order," given the coincidence of other initiatives organized by Jewish associations . Therefore, for reasons of public order and safety, the Police Headquarters has banned the demonstration, which, according to the order, can be held "on another date."
The ban , the conclusion is, "does not affect the right to demonstrate as such, but exclusively the timing of the initiative, due to its objective incompatibility with the institutional anniversary of Holocaust Remembrance Day" .
A ban that the antimilitarists have decided to challenge , meeting in Piazza Garibaldi to walk together to the permanent picket in Piazza Yenne: "For us, memory—as stated in a statement titled "Police Headquarters or Censorship?"—must serve 'so that similar events can never happen again.' Given the genocide of the Palestinian people and the disastrous geopolitical scenario, we have called for a demonstration with the slogan 'To remember is to resist,' but the Cagliari Police Headquarters considers it antagonistic and confrontational. Since there is no conflict between our demonstration and other initiatives aimed at remembering and resisting, we invite everyone to join us in the square against those who support the genocide of peoples and against those who censor the struggles themselves."
