A packed hall, the oratory, discussed the road of the future, which will wind along a 17-kilometer route from Burcei to the old Orientale highway, also crossing the municipalities of Sinnai and Maracalagonis. The first section, approximately two kilometers long, has already been completed, starting from the asphalt of the old Orientale highway, towards Maracalagonis. These two kilometers cost two million euros.
The second phase, nearly a kilometer long (costing another €1 million), will begin in April. It will wind from the outskirts of Burcei toward the mountains. The third and fourth phases of the work are the most complicated. They are nearing the environmental impact declaration stage. If all goes well with this 14-kilometer stretch (the overall planned route is 17 kilometers), this final project will begin in 2027, as specified by the director of the Metropolitan City, engineer Paolo Mereu (who is also responsible for the Roads sector).
Work on this central section of the entire route, Mereu estimated, "could be completed in 900 working days." All things considered, the road could be completed by 2030.
Data and numbers bounced around this evening at the Burcei oratory, where the town that has been dreaming of this road, it was said, for forty, fifty years, met.
Waiting for the event were Burcei Mayor Simone Monni and his guests, Cagliari Mayor Massimo Zedda, President of the Metropolitan City (which oversees the project and construction), the Authority's General Director, and Engineer Paolo Mereu, the project's numbers man, designed to free Burcei from its isolation. Also present were Maracalagonis Mayor Francesca Fadda, Sinnai Mayor Barbara Pusceddu (Vice President of the Metropolitan City), who arrived with her Council, and Councilors Katiuscia Concas, Cristiano Spina, and Maurizio Boassa.
"This road," the two mayors said, "is extremely important from a social and economic perspective. It's also important for our municipalities and for neighboring Gerrei."
Metropolitan City Mayor Massimo Zedda said he was "here to bring facts and concrete examples, to demonstrate that we're moving toward completion of a critically important project for a region with a wealth of resources. The goal is also to upgrade, for tourism purposes, the only road currently leading to Burcei."
Engineer Paolo Mereu illustrated the project in numbers, also recalling that "it all began many years ago, when a private individual donated to the Municipality a draft of the project on which we worked: a €65 million project in which we strongly believed."
The mayor of Burcei Simone Monni thanked the guests and his citizens who were able to hear live everything there is to know .
"We're facing firm deadlines, with funded projects. The future of our country hinges precisely on this path."
A beautiful story that began when publisher-entrepreneur Sergio Zuncheddu submitted to the Municipality of Burcei the draft of a thoughtful and proactive study . The Metropolitan City continued its work on this project, launching the process toward a dream destined to become reality. This is what emerged today in the land of cherries.
