An attempted mirror scam targeting a German family on the SP2 highway between Villamassargia and Cagliari was foiled only by the quick reflexes of a child who filmed the incident on his cell phone.
The story comes from a German dentist, a frequent visitor to the island, who raised the alarm about a group of fellow countrymen who love Sardinia. She also provided photos and videos.
According to the story, their car had to overtake a slow-moving gray Alfa Romeo. As their vehicle pulled alongside to overtake, a stone was thrown from the passenger compartment and struck the right rear door.
"Fortunately, no one was hurt," says the tourist, "even though our children were inside. Then," the Alfa driver, "drove behind us and tried to stop us by flashing his headlights and using hand signals. When he noticed our children were filming him, he finally let us go."
The goal, most likely, was a scam: if the tourists had stopped, the driver would have claimed he had been hit while overtaking and would have demanded immediate compensation, in cash.
“Be careful if you travel on that road,” warns the German tourist. “If anyone else has experienced this problem or can provide information on similar accidents, please report it.”
