His heart had stopped beating after three days of agony . Beaten by a boy on the night of August 31st, blind and deaf dog Alex didn't make it . His story, however, continued: a few days ago, at the Nuoro Courthouse, the judge granted the defendant, accused of attacking him, a probation order.

According to the decision, the boy will be required to carry out work for the Municipality of Esporlatu and pay LAV a symbolic sum of €100 , awarded by the judge in the absence of an acceptable compensation proposal from the defense. The hearing to verify the outcome of the probation has been set for September 29, 2026.

According to reconstructions , also thanks to video surveillance cameras installed in the area, shortly after the attack, Alex attempted to cross the street but, perhaps disoriented and dazed, was accidentally hit by a car. A motorist stopped to help him, alerting the local health authority. Despite the rush to the clinic, there was nothing that could be done for the dog.

Thanks to a tip from the manager of the LAV office in Sassari, the Carabinieri were able to identify the attacker, who was subsequently charged with animal cruelty. The association joined the proceedings as a civil party and opposed the request for probation, calling it "inadequate."

Finally, LAV reiterated its promise to closely monitor the matter while awaiting the next hearing.
