"We immediately responded with great pleasure and enthusiasm to the appeal of the Transfusion Center, because it is everyone's civic duty to lend a hand to those who need it most ".

Thus the commander of the Sassari traffic police, Inti Piras , who with 15 agents, women and men of the Via Montello traffic police, donated blood in the structure of via Monte Grappa 82.

With them also the leader of the flying squad, Dario Mongiovì . «Our task is also to be close to the population - Piras added - and what better occasion to demonstrate how our service goes far beyond that carried out every day on the road . And this is even simpler: a gesture that lasts a few minutes and can make the difference in saving someone's life».

Objective achieved by the men of the Polstrada who with their solidarity helped to strengthen the stocks of the Transfusion Center in a period, the summer, which usually promises to be very difficult. The shortage of blood bags, in fact, is accentuated in the summer, just as in Sardinia, given the presence of tourists, the population grows exponentially.

The needs of patients do not decrease with the warm season, nor do the surgeries in hospitals decrease . But this is also the period in which the cases of road accidents increase, increased precisely due to the considerable tourist flow.

«The lack of blood is, unfortunately, a constant element on our island - added Pietro Manca , director of the Transfusion Center of the Aou of Sassari - which is accentuated during periods of celebration or vacation. This is why you must never let your guard down. The donation therefore always remains a gesture of great solidarity also because there are always patients who need transfusions and these are life-saving therapies for them".
