Big fire in Villacidro, race against time to save cultivated land

The DOS (Director of Fire Extinguishing Operations) belonging to the Villacidro Forestry Corps patrol coordinated the extinguishing operations on site.

The situation is dramatic, with farmers flocking in large numbers to try to save their land, the only source of sustenance in a particularly fertile area of the Villacidro countryside.

An initial assessment speaks of heavy damages for several entrepreneurs. «Years of sacrifices gone up in smoke», is the outburst of Tarcisio Piras: «We have never hurt anyone, this is a wickedness for its own sake».

The intervention of the air vehicles ended in the afternoon, the fire covered an area of about 10 hectares of crops.
