Defending herself or her son? This is the dramatic dilemma that emerged today in court in Sassari for a 57-year-old mother accused of stabbing her ex-boyfriend in the back.
The two had been in a complex relationship for some time, marked by arguments and, according to the woman, even severe mistreatment by the man, a businessman by profession . But despite the alleged harassment, she was hesitant to abandon a toxic love, perhaps burdened by alcohol consumption, because, as she reported in court, she was thinking about protecting her son .
The man worked on a permanent contract but was also an employee of the very person who allegedly harassed his mother : he was afraid that he might lose his job, perhaps because she had distanced herself from their relationship, and for this reason he never reported the 57-year-old.
But her calculations as a mother are shattered with yet another altercation between the two, in 2023, during a dinner where claims and a few too many drinks prevail. According to the defendant , the man pushed her, making her hit her head on the fireplace, then hitting her on the sides and she, to defend herself, threw the cutlery within reach, including a kitchen knife with a 12 cm blade. The result is a cut wound that makes her partner bleed profusely - a 15-day prognosis - and it is precisely the son of the accused, called by her, who witnesses what happened on the phone and who calls for help, overwhelmed in spite of himself in the consequences of a love story from which his mother had tried to keep him away.
Then comes the complaint of the man and also that of the woman, assisted by the lawyer Fabiano Baldinu, who complains of five years of mistreatment. The 57-year-old then tried to remit the complaint but given the use of the weapon it was not possible and the proceedings continued arriving today at the climax. In the meantime the woman is followed by an anti-violence center and cannot work due to the trauma suffered. In the next hearing the discussion will be held before the judge Antonietta Crobu, the prosecutor is Ilaria Achenza, in a case in which it would seem that a mother's love prevailed over the survival instinct.
