During the day they work on the construction site. In the evening, however, they stay in the town, creating a small economic spin-off. Next month several temporary homes will be set up in Bauladu: they will house all the workers, around thirty, who will be involved in the construction of the tunnel by the Italian Railway Network and the Region.
A project financed with 124 million euros from the Development and Cohesion Fund. Mayor Ignazio Zara has always spoken of a work that, in his opinion, is expensive, useless but above all harmful to the territory.
In the meantime, however, the work by the Manelli company has already begun. «Traces have already been made but all the vegetation has also been eliminated», explains Zara, « For days, however, there have been discussions to understand in which municipal areas it will be possible to install the mobile homes. The town bar and the two small grocery shops will certainly have more customers for some time to come. This is good for us. There's no point in denying it. Once again, however, I reiterate that I will do everything to prevent the country from having problems. I will oppose it with all possible ordinances to avoid inconvenience to traffic. I don't want to see any heavy vehicles in Bauladu."
The objective, with the construction of the tunnel approximately three kilometers long, which will start from Solarussa and reach Bauladu, in the upper part of the town, is to speed up the San Gavino-Sassari-Olbia railway line. The variant will allow travel times to be reduced by raising the maximum speed to 160 kilometers per hour, saving around three minutes.
