Sardinia's emergency-urgency system is struggling. But the Agenas data "also show a high efficiency in hospitalization times, which places the emergency room of the Brotzu in Cagliari at the top of the national performance with waiting times for taking charge of patients within the 48-hour threshold". This was announced by the Region through a note.
"The goal is to make this data homogeneous across the island and to do so we need to push for new organizational models and the territorialization of services." This is the first comment from the regional health councilor, Armando Bartolazzi, in response to the latest findings from the national agency for regional health services on waiting times in emergency rooms across Italy, presented at the Forum Risk Management in Arezzo in recent days.
The research highlights the percentages of access to the emergency room with a high waiting time between admission and discharge or taking charge. The Sardinian reality, at least according to the published data, "travels on times equal to 0% waiting, at the top of the ranking together with Padua, the Policlinico of Milan and the San Matteo of Pavia".
The situation "can still improve, both by strengthening the services provided in the island's Emergency Departments with new injections of personnel, and by strengthening territorial medicine in order to avoid improper access. The Region is strongly committed to building the network of hospitals and community homes, for which resources are available between Pnrr funds, Pnc regional co-financing and other chapters for a total of approximately 138 million euros", explains Bartolazzi.
Satisfaction is also expressed by the health director of Arnas Brotzu, Raimondo Pinna: « These data not only tell a numerical evidence but describe the efficiency and effectiveness of the paths implemented , able to guarantee evaluation and possible taking charge in a very rapid time despite the presence of 42,000 visits per year to the Emergency Room, of which 11% are red codes, simultaneously ensuring the scheduled routine, emergencies and transplants. Also to be underlined is the high filtering capacity, or the appropriateness of the service provided: less than 25% of the users who turn to the Brotzu Emergency Room are hospitalized, approximately 70% are discharged or directed towards territorial care. Finally, the data from the pediatric emergency room are significant, where the filtering percentage rises to 90%».
Not only that of Arnas Brotzu, but also the Emergency Rooms of the University Hospital Companies of Cagliari and Sassari are among the top national positions in terms of access times and patient intake . This is according to the latest findings from Agenas, the National Agency for Regional Health Services, which during the Forum Risk Management in Arezzo presented the results of the latest "Evaluation of the performances of the Public Hospital and Territorial Health Companies" in Italy. The waiting times of the two university hospital facilities are around 1%, among the lowest in Italy. "I congratulate the management and staff of the Emergency Rooms of Sardinia because, despite the difficulties, they have still managed to guarantee operating times of absolute national relevance", concludes Bartolazzi.
