Erik Masala remains in prison : the 25-year-old accused of the attempted murder of Maurizio Castangia , hit in the arm with a machete in via Seruci in Cagliari, this morning answered the judge's questions in the interrogation to validate the arrest but in the end the pre-trial detention in the Uta penitentiary.
Defended by the lawyer Riccardo Floris, the young man said he had defended himself from what he feared was an attack , with a pipe, by Castangia. At that point he recovered a machete from a car, also to defend his girlfriend, he struck a blow down to scare the rival and not to hit him. When he realized what happened he was afraid and ran away . He apologized.
Masala's lawyer asked for the prosecution to be re -qualified from attempted murder to very serious injuries. The prosecutor Giangiacomo Pilia instead reiterated the need for pre-trial detention in prison also because he was already the recipient of a prison order issued the week before the attempted murder for not respecting the provision of therapeutic home arrest in a community.
In the end, the judge found the reconstruction made by the 25-year-old not very credible and given its dangerousness, and the subsequent escape for almost two days before being tracked down by the investigators of the Mobile Squad right in via Seruci, confirmed the custody in the Uta prison also because, as the investigating judge points out, he could commit similar crimes .
Meanwhile, the conditions of Castangia improve. He has begun to move the hand of the same severely injured arm and will be able to begin rehabilitation.
