A police office inside the emergency room of the Santissima Annunziata in Sassari to protect healthcare personnel from increasingly frequent attacks in hospitals.

This was decided by the Sassari Police Headquarters which, to meet the need to implement the activities of the Police posts in health facilities in Italy, starting from Monday 20 March will restore the garrison at the Sassari emergency room to prevent and possibly repress physical attacks and reports and cases of ill-treatment of healthcare personnel.

The service will be operational from 8 for the whole day, while the night service will be guaranteed by the patrols of the Volanti and by an internal number that directly connects the Emergency Room with the operations room if an intervention is necessary.

The Police Headquarters deemed it appropriate to find an adequate solution to preserve medical personnel from any problems with users and to ensure greater safety within the emergency room.

The serious problem of the phenomenon of attacks against health and social-health workers had been raised by the president of the Order of Doctors and Dentists of the province of Sassari, Nicola Addis, who had asked for immediate action to prevent and punish such behaviour.
