In the ASL Gallura there is a total shortage of 58 general practitioners; this is confirmed by a recent resolution of the general manager. A significant number of professionals expected by an enormous number of patients distributed in the various municipalities of lower and upper Gallura. Of these, 17 are missing between Olbia, Telti and Golfo Aranci; 7 between Arzachena, Palau and Sant'Antonio di Gallura, 2 in Santa Teresa Gallura, 5 between Berchidda, Monti and Oschiri; 8 between Budoni, San Teodoro, Loiri Porto San Paolo and Padru; 2 in Alà dei Sardi and Buddusò; 7 in La Maddalena; 5 between Aggius, Bortigiadas and Tempio Pausania; 3 between Calangianus and Luras; 2 between Luogosanto, Badesi, Rita d'Agultu and Vignola, Aglientu.

Among the most striking absences are those of La Maddalena where there is a lack of 7 general practitioners; this means that out of approximately 10,670 resident citizens, over 6,000 are without a general practitioner, approximately 60% of the population, assisted by only 2 Ascot doctors, who do what they can.

A figure as worrying as it is discouraging, and not only in La Maddalena but also for the other Gallura and regional realities overall, also because the news that arrives is not at all reassuring, with a total lack of 450 general practitioners in Sardinia. Sardinia which has lost, between 2019 and 2023, 39% of general practitioners. And in 2024, the participants in the national competition for the Specific Training Course in General Medicine were lower than the places available.
