They fished in an integral reserve area in the waters of the Asinara National Park . Convinced they could get away with it, two amateur fishermen, both from Sassari, were intercepted by the men of the Coast Guard of Porto Torres and reported to the competent judicial authority. The maritime police operation was completed by the Turritana port authority on the night between 28 and 29 September, within the Marine Protected Area of Asinara.

After starting the investigations with timely stakeouts at the landing points of the municipality of Stintino and on the park island, the fast naval unit - specialized in police activities - after having sighted a suspicious vessel , intercepted and stopped the boat surprised at inside Zone A of integral reserve known as “Inside Mackerel Cove”. The fisherman on board the unit was found in possession of freshly caught fish products, approximately seven and a half kilos and of various species, together with diving equipment . Once the perpetrator was identified, he was handed over to the ground team who completed the police operations.

Subsequently, the Captain's fast boat continued the patrolling operation, intercepting another person intent on fishing illegally , still within zone A in which there is an absolute ban on fishing. After a vain attempt to escape, the man was stopped and reported with the seizure of all his fishing equipment. All the catch, subject to health certification by the veterinarians of the ASL of Sassari, was donated to charity. «The presence of a place of particular naturalistic value such as the Island of Asinara», underlines Giuseppe Cannarile, commander of the Harbor Office, «imposes even more a constant commitment of the women and men of the Harbor Office - Coast Guard in supervising the correct and conscious use of the sea and its resources".
