Asinara, the Severino donkey turns 29: double ration of oats to celebrate

Happy anniversary on the Asinara island. Severino , the little donkey from Campo Perdu, is 29 years old . Lovingly cared for by Laura Sanna and Simone Rosa and by the other operators of the Park, for him today a double ration of oats , of which he is fond. Severino is one of the symbols of the Asinara island , of which the donkeys (also white ones) are a peculiarity. Although sometimes incorrectly the name of the island is associated with these quadrupeds, while in reality it derives from the Latin Insula Sinuaria, due to the sinuosity of its coasts.
Severino was an orphan and was adopted by guards and prisoners, those who could work outside their cells during the day . He was a lovable donkey. Which was joined by another orphan girl, this time white, named Pamela . A very sweet friendship was born between the two.
They were inseparable. Then Pamela after a few years was transferred to another location in Asinara: Cala d'Oliva . It was an almost obligatory choice, as the white donkeys in love had the worst of the gray ones and therefore it was necessary to safeguard the species. In these fights Severino was also overwhelmed, albeit gray, still too young and inexperienced to defend himself. But it wasn't long before the rematch. Severino became the undisputed king of Campo Perdu. His children are countless.
He is now retired. He often lives in an enclosure, because it could be dangerous for him to go out unsupervised, especially during the mating season, where he could be severely attacked by the other gray donkeys. For the rest Severino is the same as always. Aged yes, but always available for photos with tourists and visitors. Like a true self-respecting star .
Pamela, on the other hand, passed away some time ago, but she gave birth to many white donkeys. All beautiful with blue eyes. A new friend for Severino for a few months: her name is Marea .
Also looked after by Simone and Laura. Severino seems happier. Marea could be the stick of his old age. As for the children, Severino has already given. If he could, however, he would tell about his many amorous adventures. In exchange for oats, of course.
