Asbestos, a census for the island: «The regional law has not been implemented»
The death of Franco di Mare raises the issue of delays in the reclamation of the material. Giampaolo Lilliu, president of the association of ex-exposed people, speaksThe death of the journalist Franco Di Mare, victim of a tumor caused by asbestos fibres , has raised the issue of delays in the reclamation of the material, widely used for decades, until 1992.
According to the association of those formerly exposed to asbestos, in Sardinia there is no census of the presence of the material . Regional law 22 of 2005 – underlines the president of the association, Giampaolo Lilliu – is in fact unimplemented. It included a regional conference on the topic every year. Which however only took place in 2014.
«Today – observes Lilliu – environmental exposure (the case of Di Mare) is more dangerous than direct exposure , as happened for workers in the sector».
