Three years of imprisonment. This is the sentence imposed on A man from Cagliari was found guilty of sexually assaulting his niece, who was twelve years old at the time. The sentence was pronounced by the Court following a summary trial during which the facts were reconstructed. Ultimately, the judge convicted the defendant, but found the offense less serious.

According to the prosecutor's charges, the incidents allegedly occurred within the family, when the uncle and niece were watching TV together. The man allegedly spent time with the girl watching cartoons, but on those occasions he performed sexual acts in her presence, allowing her to watch and, in some cases, even approaching her to grope her. The prosecution alleges that these acts took advantage of the family relationship and the trust placed in him by the minor, his sister's daughter.

The investigation began after a teacher reported the abuse to whom the child had told. The reasons for the investigation will be filed within ninety days. The identity of the accused and other information will not be released, for the maximum protection of the victim, who is still a minor.
