Seventy traps rigged with bait, used for illegal octopus fishing, were found and seized by the Inland Waters Squad of the Oristano Police Headquarters in the Arborea marina.

The equipment, completely devoid of markings and identification , was discovered during a coastal surveillance operation. The lack of identification not only violates fishing regulations but also represents a concrete danger to navigation, putting vessels and boaters at risk. According to the law, static fishing equipment—such as traps—must be equipped with visible markings and identification codes that allow for their traceability and control.

Failure to comply with these obligations, officials explain, damages the marine ecosystem and compromises the protection of fish resources, already under pressure from intensive fishing. For these reasons, all the material has been seized, while investigations continue to identify those responsible for the illegal fishing.
