The head physician appointed in December has left after a month. And there is more than a little bit of controversy over the way the replacement was chosen.

Everything happens between the Thoracic Surgery department of the Businco hospital, which at corporate level reports to Brotzu, and the Regional Council.

In the first building, appointments are made, while in the second building doubts are raised.

After the retirement of the historical leader, Roberto Cherchi, Paolo Albino Ferrari had been indicated as director of the complex structure of Thoracic Surgery and Interventional Endoscopy. It was last December 13th. After the holidays and digested the period, here comes the resignation: on January 22nd Ferrari leaves "for personal reasons". Arnas then identifies an additional acting director: the choice falls on Pietro Antonio Macciò. Unquestionable professionalism. But, say the insiders, in a specialty considered neither equivalent nor similar: therefore, is the thesis delivered to the Regional Council, he could not direct a second level surgery department.

Whether the position is correct or not, it is yet another case linked to Businco that is sparking reactions in the Council.

"Arnas Brotzu must be placed under special administration", attacks Francesco Agus (Progressisti) "and to do so a new law is not necessary: a punctual verification of the documents signed in recent months would be enough. In particular, those relating to the restoration work of the Businco operating rooms and the consequent temporary fragmentation of the departments, are the result of improvisation and arbitrariness". Regardless of their formal legitimacy " if not withdrawn or profoundly revised, they will cause enormous and out of control problems. Those in charge must act while there is still time".

Agus thinks about the "situation of the only thoracic surgery department in Sardinia, effectively placed under special administration and left in a state of organizational chaos. With professionals first appointed to lead the department and then deprived of the conditions necessary to operate effectively. Faced with this disorganization, how many Sardinians will be forced to seek treatment outside the island for oncological pathologies?"

According to the majority representative, "there are no conditions to move forward. Decisions of this magnitude cannot be carried forward with the open opposition of the doctors and nurses who work in the facility, of the patient associations and of the trade unions. An immediate change of direction is needed, in the exclusive interest of the health of the citizens".
