The world of Sardinian equestrianism mourns Antonio Madeddu, historic patron of the Giara Oristanese Equestrian Association and tireless promoter of the Sartigliedda , the equestrian tournament dedicated to children. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 74. Until the day before, he was at work, as usual, in his equestrian center in Fenosu, where a sporting event was supposed to start today. Madeddu had made inclusion and passion for equestrianism his mission.
He had approached horses for the love of his son Antonello, a “special” boy capable of distinguishing himself and bringing home titles at national and international level in the Paralympic disciplines. It was precisely that family experience that marked the birth of an associative adventure that has involved generations. For years, the association he led had walked side by side with the Giara Club, a historic association founded by Antonio Casu. Upon the latter's death, Madeddu courageously and with dedication collected his legacy, transforming it into a living legacy, made up of young riders, passion, events and training.
Under his guidance, dozens of young riders took their first steps in the saddle, becoming established protagonists of the renowned Oristano joust over time . The Fenosu equestrian center, built by him and cared for with daily love, has become over the years a national point of reference for Paralympic equestrianism. Right there, thanks to his commitment and collaboration with FISDIR (Italian Federation of Paralympic Sports for Intellectual and Relational People), Madeddu has organized the Italian Championships several times, offering a high-level stage to athletes with disabilities and bringing prestige to the whole of Sardinia. The event scheduled for today has been suspended, but not the echo of his work, which will continue to live in the memory and in the achievements of the many he helped to grow. Antonio Madeddu leaves a deep mark, made of love for tradition and attention for the most fragile.
