A 25-year-old boy injured and two cars damaged, this is the outcome of yet another accident at the cursed intersection in the direction of Bancali, on the border between the municipalities of Porto Torres and Sassari. Same dynamic that is now recorded for all accidents recorded in that area. Speed and lack of right of way are the main causes of an intersection waiting to be regulated by a roundabout .
An Iveco van suddenly emerging from the provincial road 25 would have cut the road to a Citroen C3 which, on the former provincial road 131, was proceeding from Sassari towards Porto Torres. The van, after having torn down the road sign poles, ended up on the traffic island. The car, however, ended its run fifty meters ahead. The Citroen, which lost bodywork pieces that ended up on the road, suffered serious damage to the front. The carabinieri of the Porto Torres company will be the ones to construct the exact dynamics.
The impact was very violent. The worst case was a 25-year-old boy from Tempio, a passenger in the Citroen, driven by a 27-year-old fellow citizen. The young man was transferred by the 118 ambulance to the emergency room of Santissima Annunziata. He suffered a deep wound on his chin. The driver of the van refused help. The firefighters of the local detachment were on site and made the road safe. Local Turritan police officers regulated the traffic.
The safety problem arises once again at a road crossing where speed and distraction make the difference . Two months ago the Province of Sassari had assigned the construction work of the roundabout on the provincial road ex 131 Sassari-Porto Torres, right at the intersection in the Bancali area. «Instead he preferred to open the construction sites a little further on – say the residents – at Monte d'Accoddi, where no danger was felt. Here, however, there are over one hundred accidents, including fatal ones, where there is a clear emergency situation."
