200 volunteers, two and a half tons of waste collected. “Alghero can truly become an example for the whole of Sardinia”.
Elisabetta Murenu, president of the WeClean association, is satisfied after the two days of cleaning, last Saturday, in the pine forest of Mugoni and, before that, in that of Maria Pia. “Over 2,500 kilos of abandoned waste show that the Alghero area, particularly in the most prestigious areas and along the roads, is in critical conditions” , continues Murenu.
The numbers speak for themselves. WeClean's first intervention on Maria Pia was carried out on 7 August last. That day, with the essential help of volunteers, 1,200 kilos of abandoned waste were collected. Subsequently, according to a pre-ordered schedule, WeClean carried out another five surgeries. Last Saturday it was Mugoni's turn . 1,230 kilos of waste collected, especially in areas where illegal campers have stayed. From the sea, the boys of the association “I Tetragonauti” also arrived to lend a hand, aboard Lady Lauren, a 22-meter sailing ship. The non-profit organization committed to the reintegration into society of disadvantaged young people, who in 18 days of navigation have collected the waste, especially plastic and microplastics, present in the sea around Sardinia.
The meeting between the volunteers and WeClean teams and these young people from many Italian regions was particularly significant. The Tetragonauti, accompanied by Antonella Derriu, who on behalf of the Park did the honors and illustrated the naturalistic and unique beauties of the place, immediately organized themselves into a very special WeClean team.
