Between the flame passed from hand to hand in the port, the drums that passed through the streets of the historic center, and the voices that sang in Catalan before a city gathered around its memory, Alghero experienced one of the most attended and heartfelt editions of the Correllengua Agermanat and Sant Joan de la Porta Llatina.
An event that went beyond a simple historical reenactment. For a few hours, the city rediscovered the thread of its identity, between tradition, language, and belonging. The arrival of the Flama de la Llengua at Scalo Tarantiello was thrilling, greeted by hundreds of people: the torch, carried aboard the lateen sail "Joan of Arc," was handed over by activists from Mallorca to those from Alghero, accompanied by music and the applause of the crowd. From there, the procession moved through the streets of the historic center, amid flags, drums, and songs, to the Monument to the Unity of the Language, where Mayor Raimondo Cacciotto urged the community to keep Alghero's Catalan language alive.
The Tomborins, the blue handkerchiefs, the Cobles de la Conquesta dels Francesos, the castellers, the folk group, and the voices of Claudio Gabriel Sanna, Franca Masu, and Ester Formosa enlivened the old city. The conclusion was also evocative, with the church of San Michele open for the vow renewal ceremony in Sant Joan de la Porta Llatina, one of the most distinctive moments in Alghero's tradition. According to Plataforma per la Llengua and the Obra Cultural de l'Alguer, the 2026 edition was the most attended in recent years.
