Alghero, restaurant sealed after explosion

The Sartoria del Gusto restaurant was sealed off after Sunday evening's explosion.

The firefighters, on the orders of the Public Prosecutor Ermanno Cattaneo, cordoned off the premises on Via Duomo with red and white tape, while the members of the Workplace Prevention and Safety Service seized the equipment or what remained of it.

The investigation by the Sassari Public Prosecutor's Office will have to establish the exact causes of the violent explosion that devastated the restaurant , shortly before rush hour, without ruling out any scenario, not even the hypothesis that it was a malicious act, even if there is talk of a gas leak.

Five people suffered minor injuries from glass shards that flew like projectiles, or were burned by the fire that broke out following the explosion. All were treated by emergency services. This was nothing compared to what could have happened if the restaurant had been full of customers. Firefighters, Carabinieri, and local police also responded to the scene on Sunday. The building was evacuated, and firefighters had to work until late into the evening to inspect and clean up the fire.
