An Italian tourist was stopped at Alghero airport after attempting to board a flight to Bologna with a stolen fossil in his suitcase .

Officials from the Customs and Monopolies Agency of Sassari, together with the Guardia di Finanza soldiers of the Alghero Company, stopped him for a check and found a trilobite fossil weighing 632 grams in his hand luggage, without the documentation certifying its legitimate possession.

The artifact, presumably from the national subsoil and therefore classified as part of the state's unavailable assets, was seized. The man was reported to the Sassari Prosecutor's Office for the crime of receiving stolen cultural property.
