Following the actions of Asarp and the unions, the Regional Ombudsman for Children and Adolescents, Anna Cau, has taken a tough stance on the critical situation in the Child and Adolescent Neuropsychiatry department on the fourth floor of the Microcitemico hospital in Cagliari.

"Immediate intervention is required to ensure respect for the right to health of the minors admitted and the dignity of patients, families, and staff working in the ward." This is the gist of the letter sent to the President of the Region (and Regional Health Councilor) Alessandra Todde and to the Chair of the Regional Council's Health Commission, Carla Fundoni.
The Guarantor requests immediate information on the very serious critical issues in the department, which have also been reported by the Sardinian Association for the Implementation of Psychiatric Reform (Asarp), and what immediate actions are intended to resolve this dire situation that is causing significant hardship to minors and their families.

"Since the extremely serious problems affecting the care of minors with mental health issues in Sardinia have long been known, due to the insufficiency and inadequacy of hospital resources, local neuropsychiatric services, and community, residential, and day care facilities dedicated to the treatment of mentally vulnerable children, we request," the letter reads, "that a process of urgent reorganization of the healthcare system dedicated to the care of mentally vulnerable children be initiated, including the establishment of an interinstitutional discussion forum."
