The archbishop emeritus of Sassari, and former bishop of Tempio Pausania, Monsignor Paolo Atzei, has returned home to Sardinia after the illness that struck him in Rome on 16 September last.

Forced to undergo a long convalescence in the capital, yesterday Father Paolo was transferred to Oristano, his hometown , to a specialized facility where he will continue his rehabilitation therapy. His health conditions are good.

He had been struck by a cerebral ischemia during the confessions in St. Peter's Basilica , an event that had aroused concern on the island where there are many people who have received comfort from his words.

The former archbishop of Sassari, 80 years old, had long since retired to the convent of San Francesco in Oristano. After the illness he had been hospitalized at the Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome.
