Accidents at work: +25% in one year in Sardinia, increasing especially among women

Work accidents reported in Sardinia in 2022 grew by 25% compared to the previous year.
The figure emerges from the "Made in Inai" prevention forum held in Sassari, the first of 23 appointments which will end in Rome on 26 and 27 October.
The reports showed that the increase in accidents on the island is in line with the national average: in 2022 there was a 29% increase in cases in the workplace and a 4.3% drop in transit, for a overall figure estimated at +25%.
The total was affected by the cases of Covid, responsible for 61% of the general accident increase, with 5,400 complaints, of which 67% concern female workers. There were 10 deaths from Covid as an accident at work, all men with an average age of 60.
Considering the data net of Covid, the increase in injuries stands at +11%. And the growth concerns women in particular: women's accident reports are 42% of the total, compared to the average 37% recorded in the last decade.
Analyzing the age of the injured workers, the highest percentage concerns the over 50s with 39.5% (the national average is 32%), with a prevalence of the 50-64 age group. The incidence of accidents among the over 64s is 2.6%.
As regards the productive sectors, 74% of the accidents recorded in 2022 occurred in the "industry and services" sector, 12% in agriculture, and 14% for "state account". However, healthcare is in first place, followed by transport, construction, trade, accommodation and catering.
The data regarding injuries caused by violence, assaults and threats is particularly significant: in 2022 in Sardinia there were 253, of which 144 to the detriment of workers in the health and care professions.
