Accidents and slow work, Quartu-Su Planu lasts like Cagliari-Milan: hellish morning for traffic
Trivial rear-end collisions, but also (slow) works in the middle of the road: chronicle of a nightmare route on the Viale Marconi and Asse mediano routesGGux2RkLTFcS1kMDAEvXShZK8WwSbmdjAAAF.mp4
From Quartu to Su Planu? Yes and no a quarter of an hour on a normal day, almost an hour and a half on a nightmare Tuesday. A route that becomes a long journey, due to simultaneous accidents and works in progress, in two arteries, Viale Marconi and the Median Axis, which suddenly become impassable due to (a lot of) the fault of motorists who speed even at 180 per hour but also due (equally) to road solutions that cannot be found.
The hellish morning begins in Viale Marconi, in the direction of the capital. Here comes a long snake of cars that appears inexplicable. At first, at least: it's after 9 and rush hour is behind us. Dilemma soon revealed. Or rather, mystery solved after half an hour of queuing: right under the bridge before the Ugo Foscolo school, in front of the traffic light, there is a bulldozer digging up the asphalt: flow of cars diverted onto a lane and paralysis on the ramp leading to on the median axis.
It seems to be going better towards Poetto. The route gets longer but at least you don't stand still. So we try to take that direction, but here's the surprise: shortly after everything along the Axis is blocked due to an accident. Four cars were involved. Rear-end collision, nothing serious, but seriously there is a queue which, looking back, you can see starting from the roundabout in Via Peretti.
Once the obstacle has been overcome, after an interminable time, we head back towards Su Planu, after the U-turn to head back in the opposite direction. And here's the other surprise, which at this point isn't much of a surprise. Here too everything is blocked, endless queue. The cause: another collision, this time between two cars. Always on the straight.
And when the motorist thinks that it's over, here are the works for the construction of the raised pedestrian crossing in via Peretti. They started in the middle of last week and for now they are only digging in the traffic island between one direction and the other. However, the roadway is narrow, you only travel on the external lanes. At the center are the workers who as such operate, yes, but with the rhythms of a Mexican siesta. A necessary intervention, because on that point a boy was hit and killed on January 8th and a woman was run over a few days ago. But precisely for this reason it would be necessary to act quickly. But no. Also due to this construction site, a journey from Quartu to Su Planu takes longer than a plane journey between Cagliari and Milan.
Of course, there were alternatives. Like State Road 554. But can we be sure that the times would have been shorter? There are those who still wonder whether those green traffic light signs for those traveling at 80km/h are true or are the starting point for (lost) bets. Meanwhile, we await the roundabouts. While traveling to Cagliari by car has become hell.
