Little remains of the auto body shop on the outskirts of Abbasanta. Charred equipment, offices and the painting oven were seriously damaged by the fire that broke out around 3 in the morning. It was a passing motorist who noticed the flames in the structure located a few kilometers from Highway 131 and immediately raised the alarm. Firefighters from the Abbasanta detachment intervened on site and worked for almost four hours to put out the fire. Then the cleanup operations continued until the early morning.
The body shop of Diego Cosseddu, 79 years old, had already been damaged by a fire in March. "Then there was an outbreak of fire due to a short circuit and the damage was contained – he explained – now it's all charred, I can't estimate the damage."
Investigations by the fire brigade and the police are underway to shed full light on the episode, neither a fault in the electrical system nor other hypotheses are ruled out.
